Key Stage 2
Most timetabled lessons are taught in classes, although for Literacy and Numeracy two classes may join together, to allow for more focussed work according to need and ability. Classes have access to the multi-sensory room, which is used for small groups with specific needs, such as profound and multiple learning difficulties.
Physical Education is supported by a Gymnastics Coach in the Autumn Term, which is funded by the Primary PE Grant. Rebound Therapy has been integrated into our curriculum and several members of the Primary Department have been trained to deliver this program of physical therapy.
Swimming in our hydrotherapy pool is timetabled for each class on a weekly basis and children in the Primary Department have an opportunity for horse riding at a local stable.
Compulsory national curriculum subjects at Key Stage 2 are:
- Design and technology
- Art and design
- Physical education (PE), including swimming
- Ancient and modern foreign languages
Religious Education is taught in class, during assemblies and within group worship at the local Church and Cathedral.
We teach PSHE in discrete lessons, which includes Sex Education. PSHE is also embedded across the curriculum.
