Key Stage 4
Pupils in this Key Stage are generally taught with other pupils in the same or similar year group, but may be placed, across Key Stages, according to need and ability. Whilst most timetabled lessons are taught within the classrooms, specialist lessons are also taught across the school in other areas.
All pupils have access to the multi-sensory room, which is used for small groups with specific needs, such as profound and multiple learning difficulties. Other specialist areas include: the speech therapy room, technology room, library and hall for performance and sports.
All Classes within this Key Stage follow the National Curriculum.
The compulsory national curriculum subjects are the ‘core’ and ‘foundation’ subjects.
Core subjects are:
Foundation subjects are:
- Physical education
As a school we also offer at least one subject from each of these areas:
- Design and technology
- Modern foreign languages
Religious Education is taught in class, during assemblies and within group worship at the local Church and Cathedral.
We teach PSHE in discrete lessons, which includes Sex Education. PSHE is also embedded across the curriculum of core and foundation subjects.
Swimming sessions take place at the Hewett School Leisure Facility and each class will have at least a term of swimming across the academic year. Those pupils with more profound physical difficulties access specialist therapy sessions within our own pool.
PE sessions are delivered in school by specialist Sports Coaches, who are partly funded by Broadland District council. Alongside this offer, trained class staff run Rebound Therapy sessions and other PE sessions to fulfil the National Curriculum requirements.
